War photographer is documentary about James Nachtwey and his career as a war journalist. The documentary itself describes some of the areas James Nachtwey has been to for example Indonesia and some other places. The documentary also shares James Nachtwey idea to other war journalist that just because your a journalist you can't say your not involved since you are right there in the present watching it happen. James Nachtwey also speaks about the reason he chose this career path, he chose it because he thought the job would have adventure and be fun, he later's explains that the job is not like that and he keeps doing it for the sole reason of getting the message of what is happening to these people out to the world. It also has a point in the documentary where it explains James Nachtwey photographing a man being chased by a mob and how James beg the mob not to kill this man but his plead was not answered and the man killed right in front of him. The documentary also has co-workers of his describing him. This describe him as a "loner" since unlike other war journalist who brag about where they have been, he keeps it to himself.
I think in my personal opinion that what James Nachtwey is doing is the best course of action, war journalist are criticized for what they are doing but in reality the photos of the situation are the best thing they could do. One man could help another man and save his life but that is only one life saved, the man could also share they story of the man who needs help and gather attention for him so others can help as well and this is what James Nachtwey is doing, he himself could help which he does but taking photos and shining light on the situation is the right thing to do. The western world is full of ignorance to problems that don't hit home and photos of these situations can break the ignorance and start a movement to help. James Nachtwey seems like a amazing man willing to sacrifice his chance of living a normal life and going into this career, as he also said he had some shell shock. To sum it up, I applaud James Nachtwey for what he is doing.
